While there are loads of Oil and Butter Infusion Methods, this recipe by Robyn Lawrenceis easy, can be done from anywhere, and ensures you won’t accidentally burn your weed!
The key to oil and butter infusions is to cook them low and slow, optimally at around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Temperatures above 350 degrees Fahrenheit cause volatile oils and terpenes to evaporate, and the fats will burn.
What you Will Need:
¼ to 1/2 ounce dried and cured cannabis
Distilled water
¼ pound butter or 8 ounces oil, room temperature
French press
Crockpot/Dutch Oven or just a large Pot with Lid with settings below 180 degrees Fahrenheit
Pyrex dish or cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
Wide-mouth Mason jar
Narrow wooden spoon
Fine mesh strainer
Cheesecloth
Medium-size mixing bowl
Ice cube trays (optional)
Freezer bag (optional)
Sharpie and labels
Step-by-Step
Step 1: Wash Your Cannabis and Thoroughly Dry
Robyn Suggested soaking the cannabis for about 12 hours in distilled water. This is most easily done in a French Press. Pour out the water and keep soaking until the water runs clear.
Make sure your cannabis is thoroughly dry before moving on to step 2.
Step 2: Decarboxylate! This activates the THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids
Break or grind your cannabis. Put it on parchment paper on a pyrex into a 240-degree oven for about 25-35mins. Do not burn your weed!
Step 3: Place Cannabis in Ball Jar with Oil or Butter
Place about 1/8th of Cannabis with ½ cup of olive oil. Stir.
Step 4: Slow Cook Your Ball Jar in Water
Place your ball jar in a Dutch Oven or Large pot. Fill with water up to about the halfway line on your jar and gently simmer. Simmer your ball jar for up to 12 hours.
Step 5: Remove Oil. Strain
Remove oil jar from Dutch Oven. Wait until it is cool enough to work with. Strain using cheesecloth and a strainer.
Step 6: Store and Label
Pour oil into a jar and store it in a cool dry place. Option to pour into ice cube tray for single size doses and store in the freezer. Make sure to label your oil! Date, strain, approx THC content.
Step 7: Enjoy!
Great for Salad Dressings, and anything that uses oil or butter!
Cannaoil lasts 2-3 months when stored in a cool dark place. Longer if stored in the freezer.
