Transdermal THC/CBD Patches | Review of Mary’s Medicinals

Transdermal patches are not the first thing you may think of when you want to get high recreationally. They might cross your mind if you are medicating for an illness or condition, but even then, most people think of pills or other methods before they consider the word ‘transdermal’. Mary’s Medicinals is an OG Colorado cannabis brand and they have some innovative products, their transdermal patches being one of them.

Transdermal Definition

You may have seen our CBN transdermal patch review – which needs some updating – we honestly were unsure of how the patch worked. With products that are non-psychoactive reviews are much harder and require consistent use, which we were not able to do given the cost of the patches. But this patch is a combo of CBD and THC and thus, does have some psychoactive qualities (or the same price tag – CBN tends to be extremely expensive), so we feel this review is much more indicative of how transdermal patches work.

So, what is a transdermal patch? It’s almost like the sticky part of bandaid material, it’s the same peachy color yet smoother. It sticks onto your skin (in the most veinous area you can – wrist or top of foot recommended) and administers a precise dose of medicine directly to your bloodstream. The benefits claim to be accurate dosing, quick effects, long-lasting effects, bypassing of the liver, no negative effects associated with smoking, no food allergies or sensitivities, and more.

Transdermal THC Patch in Use

The patches come in all sorts of varieties depending on what you need. CBN for sleep, CBD for anxietyTHC – Sativa for an energetic High, THC – Indica for a more mellow body high, THCA for Anti-inflammatory, and what we are reviewing here today a THC/CBD 1:1.

One of the reasons I wanted to try these patches is because of personal experience with my uncle when he was extremely sick with cancer and going through chemo. He wanted relief so badly, but couldn’t smoke, and couldn’t eat – so edibles were off the table, and we couldn’t even get him to swallow a tincture. We didn’t know what to do, this was a long time ago before weed was recreationally legal. I asked a friend with a med card to help and he brought me these. But by the time I had found them, it was too late. I don’t know what happened to those patches or who made them, but I think this is an amazing way to medicate.

But on to the review!

Our Experience:

I made sure to be of a totally sober mind, not hungover, not sick in any way, 100% healthy and happy on a Saturday morning with nothing else to do but try this patch. I applied the patch to my left inner wrist at 9:30 am before I had eaten or even had coffee (I doubt it matters). I documented my experience via Instagram and waited. I started noticing effects around 10 am, so roughly 30 mins after I applied the patch I knew for sure that it was working.

It wasn’t a sneak-up-on-you super high, but I noticed a general lightness of being, a happy, fluffy, floating on a cloud type feeling. I was smiling, I was noticing details on the leaves of the trees around me. I was feeling immense gratitude and love. But even though I am a total lightweight and 5mg usually knocks me on my ass – this felt like a high where I could go to work, I could drive to the grocery store, I could hang out with strangers, I didn’t have an ounce of anxiety. I wondered if it was going to intensify.

The high never did intensify. If anything I got used to the feeling and forgot I was high. I went on to have a great day, I walked my dog a little longer than usual, I did yoga, I talked to some neighbors, I got a little creative in the kitchen, read my book, and did a little writing for my blog. I’m not sure when the effects started dissipating. Around 9 hours after applying the patch I felt I could take it off. But there was never a moment of feeling ‘I’m not high now” it was so pleasantly gradual.

If you can’t tell – I’m totally sold on these. These are not something you want to pick up if you want to get stoned out of your mind, but if you are looking to have a great day then I 100% recommend.

I also love a product that has no sugar or weird ingredients, it’s just Cannabinoids, terpenes, and eucalyptus, going right into your bloodstream. It feels clean and healthy. Plus, if you or someone you know is experiencing an illness like my uncle was and cannot swallow medicine – this is such a great alternative. I can’t wait to try all of the varieties and I will most certainly be buying this one again.

Downsides: We tried hard to think of some downsides and what we came up with is that it’s not super discrete to have a patch on your wrist – it looks like a nicotine patch. You could put it on your foot, but if it is summer and you wear sandals, that also will look odd. But this seems like a small price to pay to use a great product!
